Here’s my real ‘hello world’! The first blog post on my first real website!
I will not just start a ramble here about me since I still have to write an ‘About’ page anyway. I will start out my first post by telling you why I launched this website in the first place. This should be a good subject to get this first post out-of-the-way and reduce stress levels :).
I love to write and share
So I once had a blog back when hardly anyone blogged. It was focussed on design in a virtual world. It was this great place where I connected with many people online and even made real friends I still speak to on a regular basis. Ever since I started my online shops I missed having a similar place to write and blog. But since having a business feels so much more grown-up, I wanted my website to be and look all grown-up as well.
Eventually I started postponing and postponing and all I had were some domains for my 2 very different shops focusing on graphics and products. But I am still missing that place to share the process behind the shops, share free resources, share lessons learned and last but not least, make connections!
I had to combine the two different businesses
It is very impractical to have two different places to blog at and keep both sites up to date etc. Both businesses are however quite different in the fact one is for graphics and the other is for physical goods. What they do have in common is me as the designer. I noticed that for my side projects that feature both my illustrations and lettering I started using my own name instead of ‘By Lef’ or ‘DEEZ Dutch’. That’s how this site was born.
Behind the scenes
What this site will mainly focus on is to show you what is done behind the scenes, and what I learned along the way that might be useful for others. It will also be a central point where all my work combines. At least that’s how I envision it. We’ll see where it goes.
Right now the site is filled with sample posts and image holders etc. It doesn’t look grown up as I imagined it, but the fact I’m editing it to my liking and try to make it personal feels more grown up than I imagined.
If you made it all the way to the bottom, thank you! I hope my posts will eventually evolve for the better!
Take care and see you next post!
